Before Dunamis, I served in higher education for two decades.
When I took the job, diversity in the student population was a whopping 3%. And I was supposed to be excited about that.
By the time I left, our student population diversity was at 15%,
I had gone from leading a team of 2 to a team of 50.
We were responsible for bringing in between 1.3 and 1.8 million dollars in revenue.
And I was still being labeled as the “angry brown girl.”
Even though I was successful in my position, I quickly learned that the real role I was serving was the token woman of color. Once I had that revelation, I knew that I wasn't the only one.
I’m tired of seeing my sisters lose out on opportunities to individuals who are only qualified on paper. (Because we've all worked with that Special Somebody who has more degrees than a thermometer but does NOT know how to do the work.)
I want you to see that you are not alone in your struggle. And, most importantly, I want you to leave this space better than when you came in.
